PROFILE
Paddles (Founder)
Real name Peter Burnett., was one of the original
founder members of SBGO twenty years ago. Paddles will shortly
be honourably and deservedly inducted as the inaugural SBGO Life
Member. Beside his infatuation with the No.10 shirt lets find
out more about him.
Born in Dunedin, NZ in 1952
NZ National Service in 1970 after which he married Judy in 1973,
has two children, daughter Romany born 1974 and son Glen born
in 1976.
Escaped NZ in 1978 to live in Brisbane. The following
year Paddles joined the Sunnybank Rugby Club. At the time the
facilities consisted of a 12ft caravan for the club house and
a hose for the showers. He played sub-district for 9 years.
In 1983 he toured and played Hong Kong and Singapore
as a member of Sunnybank seniors first touring side.
In 1988 he represented Sunnybank in a combined
Brisbane over 35’s team at the Expo 88 Competition. During
the week long competition they used the Waterloo Hotel as the
headquarters. The hotel stayed opened 24 hours a day for the players
and supporters use, needless to say a very merry time was had.
It was here that the SBGO seed was planted. Along with his mate
Evan Stewart he our very own over 35’s rugby team. A dream
was born and the as then Mean Green drinking Machines was formed.
In 1989 the very first game for the puffing dragons
against Everton Park and Paddles formed and chaired the very first
meeting for over 35,s rugby in Brisbane.
Between 1990 – 94 he was the president of
puffing dragons. During his tenure he designed the club emblem
and renamed the side to the “Mighty Dragons”
The inaugural festival known as the mother of all festivals hosted
18 teams and set a benchmark for all festivals that followed all
over Brisbane . Other notable events and accomplishments include:
1995 toured with Souths to Hong Kong 7s
Participant in 2003 Brisbane, 2005 San Diego and 2006 Wellington
World Golden Oldie Festivals
Co-ordinator for the SBGO Super 14 comp
Major sponsor procurer
Used innovative new technologies to promote SBGO, i.e., sponsored
and organised the website
Snappa
Snappa started playing rugby at 14
and went on to play withthe under 19's at university befre joining
the old engineers team in the local sub-district competitions.
Joining the dragons as a young 41 yr old and turning the great
age of 50 later this year. He has toured with the team to Alice
Springs in 2000 and has been on most of the trips Harvey Bay and
Bundy.
He has a consulting engineer business
and is available cheap to club members requiring his services.
He almost always plays of the side of the scrum.
Bren (Club Captain)
Bren started with the club in 1995 and has played
most seasons when his busy work schedule allowed. He is married
for the third time so you'd think he got it right this time, to
the Beautiful Jo and has one son with Jo called Jackson.Bren has
played Rugby since the age of 6.
The name Bren was given to him by the the team
as soon as they knew his last name was Abbot. Hence the name Brendan
(the postcard bandit)
Bren plays mostly in the four's where he reckons
the real work is completed and has been favoured to play the positions
of lock or loosie. His favourite team are the Mighty All Blacks
and he also played as a youngster for the King Country back in
the land of his birth New Zealand. He has been a regular contributor
to the club and has agreed to become Secretary again for this
season. His ambition is to retire before he kicks the bucket and
outlives Daktari.
